My 1 yr old Gateway has only the slow usb ports tho thot
I was getting at least 2 that were 2.0. Now I want to
convert analog video to digital and think that will give
me a problem.
Since Gateway said my current config (believe its the CPU)
does not support 2.0 can I add a PCI card having 2.0 and
have the fast thruput?
TIA

In short, yes. My system only has USB 1.1 on the motherboard, I added a
Belkin USB 2.0 PCI card with no problems, just make sure you have XP-SP1
installed and everything should be fine.

Great. My machine came in a mini case, have to check for
open slots and size. Appreciate your help, think the
Komputer Mags have not gone into this too well (!?)

The computer magazines have covered this well enough. If
you buy a computer with no expansion slots, a small case, it
is up to you to select what you want and need.

Small cases are "pretty" and don't take up a lot of desk
space. They also may use non-standard sized power supplies,
have fewer or no expansion slots and otherwise be less
suitable to modify.

But if you do have an open PCI slot, consider getting a
combo USB 2.0/Firewire card.
