As yet, I have not been asked by Microsoft to download IE7, tho'
this morning Yahoo invited me to do so. I wonder if anyone who
has already downloaded it without problems can tell what to read
and any precautions to take for a successful installation?
Perhaps, sufficient instructions will come with the download
which I *will not* allow to install automatically but anyway, it
would be good to know.

Have you read the Release Notes before installing:

I haven't downloaded yet but I will certainly read the notes.
Thanks again!

In general, you would be wise to avoid installing any new program as
soon as it becomes available. It is inevitable that minor or even major
problems will crop up, no matter how thoroughly a program is tested.
This advice goes double, even triple, for a new browser.

No software company, however conscientious, can anticipate every user
configuration, every way a user will use (or misuse) the software and
every security threat. And software is written by human beings, after all.

Better to let someone else be the guinea pig. You'll shortly be reading
about their problems in these newsgroups, especially the ones who are
least prepared to work with new software.

I plan to wait until 2007 to upgrade to IE 7 myself. Still, if you like
to be an 'early adopter' there are safe ways to try out new software.
One is to install it on a spare computer, one where you don't care if it
gets messed up. Another way is to install it into a virtual environment,
if you're into that.

Thanks again! I just read them and decided to wait a while
before installing. What I would really like to know is whether
anyone has installed without any problems or noticed any obvious
bugs wating to be fixed.

Didn't work for me. Crashed on IE 7 opening screen. Uninstalled it and
returned to IE 6. Send error message to MS. I am not the only one with
this issue.

I'm going to wait a few months before trying again until MS reads the error
messages and cleans out the bugs.

I have been running IE7 since the first Beta (Beta1, Beta2, RC1, and now the
Final).

At first there were some bugs, but since RC1 I have not run into any real
problem. I have come across a couple of items that didn't work in my sites,
and in others, but I have diagnosed them, and found it to be the code on the
site that didn't work, not IE7. It is usually made up from old code or bad
code that IE6 tended to ignore. IE7 has more security checks. Any worthwhile
organization has alrady tested to make sure their site works with IE7
considering its soon to be widespread release using windows update.

On the other hand noone can guarentee everything will work or that there are
no bugs in new software at anytime, even old software has bugs. I would
reccemend upgrading to IE7 as it seems stable and even though a flaw has
already been found, I am betting it is more secure than 6, and way better to
use.

DON'T DO IT. IE 7 is horrible. It almost ruined my computer. Don't
download it. Keep IE 6 or go to mozilla or firefox.

Hi
I have already given you the link to the correct group if you want to
monitor/discuss IE7 - here it is again.
Please read and post there.

Who'd have thought that would be the best place but I guess I
will switch to watching that. There did seem to be enough
mentions of IE7 in m.p.w.i.ie6.browser to make that a likely
place! A quick scan of m.p.i.general seems to reinforce my
decision to wait 6 months to a year!

Thanks!

Good luck - 6 months sounds about right - the IE7 has only just popped up in
numbers, in the last couple of days due to its recent issue.
