Update to 5733 problem

Hi,

I got the same problem with updating definition to 5733
version.

I saw a lot of people here also experienced the same
thing. Anyone can help with with this issue? I really
appreciate it.

The simple steps in that post will fix this problem permanently.
 
I did the "cure" for 5733 and then I have had to re-do it again for 5733.
Do you think this will be that last time. I noticed the file sizes were
slightly different.

Can you explain which "cure" you used?

If you are manually replacing the definition files, this will need to be
done each time.

The definitive fix involves replacing gcUnCompress.dll, located in
\system32.

The "bad" file is around 130k. If you have this file, delete it, then do:

start, control panel, add or remove programs, Microsoft Antispyware, change,
update.

This will fix the issue with .614 permanently. If your problem is NOT with
build .614, please respond--that would be a different issue.
 
I used this "cure" with 614:
Manually download the definitions for Microsoft
Antispyware Beta 1:

http://download.spynet.com/ASDefinitions/gcDeterminationData.gcd
http://download.spynet.com/ASDefinitions/gcThreatAuditScanData.gcd
http://download.spynet.com/ASDefinitions/gcThreatAuditThreatData.gcd

Save these files in your MSAS directory overwriting the
older definitions.

It has worked today inasmuch as I didn't get a wee notice telling me there
were new definitions available. I had wondered whether I would have to do
the (above) cure any time a new definition update appeared. I will go and
do the Control Panel cure.

Harry, I used Edward Lamarre's suggested link and it fixed
my problem of updating. There was also another suggested
fix by Robin Walker. If you check back through this site
and the other sections(Application Compatability & Install)
with you will find them.
