Hi
First, how do i get rid of the slider on the left in this group showing all of the group choices

Second, is there a way to automaticely update the source data. I am inserting a new line of data at the top of and existing data set and like adding data at the top of a formula, etc excel does not recognize the new data. Does not appear that charting includes the "titles", thus allowing to add the new data with auto update

Third, when I go in and manualy update the source, by changing the row number from 3 to 2, picking up the new row added, the chart changes. It is a time series chart, left to right, oldest to newest. It reverses the the time order, newest to oldest

I am using Microsoft Office Professional Edition 2003, running under XP Home Edition

1. I think the slider you refer to must be a symptom of the web
interface for the newsgroups. That panel is part of the web interface
experience, and as such, you're stuck with it. But you can use a
newsreader instead (Outlook Express or Netscape), and point it to
msnews.microsoft.com, and the interface is more satisfying.

2. Look at the dynamic examples and links on this page. You can set up
named ranges that adjust which data is visible in a chart.

In addition, in Excel 2003, you can define your data range as a List,
and when the list is adjusted, if the chart is based on whole columns of
the list, it will reflect the new dimensions of the list. (I don't have
2003 installed, so I can't check this for sure. But a very highly placed
source at Microsoft described this to me.)

3. I'm not sure what you are describing. Are you changing just the Y
values, or also the X values? What data is used for the X values?

Thanks for your help. I will check out the fetures you have described that are new to 2003. I am adjusting the y values and when I go into the source, I am changing the row source from row 3 to row 2, which is what it was before adding another row of data. It is wierd, sometimes it changes, reverses, the cronology of the data. I found after changing the Data Source screen and then clicking on the Series Screen, where I make no changes, the time series does not reverse itself. Just another idiosyncrasy of Excel

Thanks again

Hi Again Jon

Thought I would check it out. I went and named the ranges, the series run in Columns, deleted the existing chart and started over. Made a new chart and then added new fictious data t se if your would update itself. It did not. When I check out the source data, I don't see the names referenced in the screens, only the addresses

Thanks
David

You need to define names for the X and Y values of each of the series,
and impose these names in the Series tab of the Source Data dialog.
Defined names entered in the Data Range tab are converted to their cell
addresses, and are not dynamic.

There is no "row source" for x or y values. Are you changing the Data
Range selection on the Data Range tab, or the (Y) Values selection in
the Series tab? Do you mean the y values are all in row 2 or 3? What is
the chart using for x values? Row 1, or an undefined counter?
