Update Rollup 1 for Windows XP

Sawney

How do I pick this Roll-Up package apart so that I don't
have to download the 811493 update? Because of
circumstances beyond my control, or comprehension, 811493
messes my computer up, to the point that I have to format
when it is downloaded. I know this is the particular
download that is reigning havoc on my computer because I
had to download one update at a time to find it, and
format everytime I had downloaded it. I have been in
these forums for a year now looking for answers and
posting question after question but I am either ignored
or given the wrong advice, which usually takes me full
circle to formatting. I think these forums are wonderful
way to help people, but I wish Microsoft was a little bit
easier to contact on matters such as this. Any help would
be greatly appreciated.

after a new installation the system restore function
should be enabled (it's by default).
Most of the security updates create automatic restore
points before installing, (or create your own restore
point before installing the problem update) so you should
be able just to go back to an earlier point and don't have
to reinstall the whole system.

I would also recommend to download all the updates to a
different partition or CD (like jupiter suggested)so you
can install them from there one by one (you don't have to
reboot after every update)

Strange that you get problems with this one update after a
fresh install of XP.

Okay - so there is someone out there who wants to get the individual
packages of the Rollup still, eh? Well, here is a list of the Windows XP
(32bit, english) patches (and a few extra downloads) in order of install..

Below this point you will find the Windows XP (32bit, English) editions
updates from SP1 and through the end of April 2004. You will also find some
other downloads (tweaks, plugins, extras) that you may find useful. If all
of this is put on one CD, you pretty much have a way to patch through April
2004 any Windows XP (32bit, english) machine without a network connection at
all.

You can install these in the order given, and if you (for whatever crazy
reason) substitute the individual packages in for the Rollup, those are in
order at the bottom of the post, just pretend they are up top with the
roll-up.

811493 when originally released did cause many computers to run at a slow
pace. The problem however was corrected by Microsoft with a new 811493. If you
download and install 811493 you will get the new version only. If you still
have a problem with it, it is not 811493 causing the problem.
