update removed saved passwords

The most recent Internet Explorer removed my windows
saved (remembered) passwords. I've got a ton of them to
replace. Any way to get them back or warn people in
advance of the problem.

They haven't actually gone, but IE won't access them, presumably a nasty side affect of the removal of the ability to include usernames and passwords in URLs as the 'fix' to the URL spoofing vulnerability.

Personally I'm very annoyed about this. As far as I'm concerned this didn't need fixing - I could see the proper URL anyway (in the MyIE2 IE wrapper I use, anyway) - and it shouldn't make the passwords seem to vanish in any case. AND the method to disable this one feature of the update with the Registry entry as given on the TEchnet site doesn't work.

If you uninstall the update, you will find your passwords etc reappear.

entry as given on the TEchnet site doesn't work.

It may help if you describe in more detail what you did in the registry.
For example, is it being done for compatibility for iexplore.exe
or some other application? Could character case be a factor?
