Why does the updater indicate that the updates are always
from Version 5693 to 57xx during update? Should the
updater be indicating from Version 57xx to 57xx, where the
second version is a later 57xx. The updater is always
indication the updates are from Version 5693.

Yes, something is wrong! The version lists as 5693, even
though the latest definitions on the main system summary
says the definitions are April 2, 2005 (5703). Apparently,
the definitions are not updating. The permissions are fine.

The only other anti-spyware programs monitoring are Spybot
Search & Destroy and Spy Sweeper. The other ones are on-
demand scan only due to memory considerations.

I tried shutting down both of the monitoring anti-spyware
programs and then updating. Didn't work! It still shows
Version 5693 under About and File Properties while showing
later definitions in the System Summary.

I need to repost my reply. The previous post appeared in
the thread and then disappeared as if erased. Please don't
erase it. I am trying to get help here.

The version check shows Version 5693. The permissions are
fine. The System Summary shows last update done 4/2/2005.

There are 2 other anti-spyware programs running in real-
time monitoring mode. The others are in on-demand only
mode. I tried shutting down the 2 programs and reupdating.
It didn't work. Version 5693 still shows.

Hi

try this:

- Right click om MSAS icon in systray and choose shutdown

- Open Windows Explorer and go to Program files / MSAS

- Rename gcThreatAuditScanData.gcd to
gcThreatAuditScanData.old

- Rename gcThreatAuditThreatData.gcd to
gcThreatAuditThreatData.old

- Start MSAS and try menu file- check för updates.

I thought this was just a bug with the Help About date not corresponding
with the latest definition date, its also on mine.

I can still see the other reply. If I understand you correctly, going by
the information in the KB article, you have verified that the bits on the
disk are in fact the older definitions?

If that's correct, can you try plun's suggestion in reply to that other
message?

One more thing about my suggestion, it is not necessary to
"Check for updates", MSAS checks this during restart.
Verified and working.

I think I've seen that myself. I wonder whether it happens at all times, or
if there is some event--like the files being missing, that triggers it.

Please follow the steps in

Sorry, it takes too long. I am on dial-up. I am taking
phun's advice. It is already tried and tested. Thank you
anyway.

Check the second message in the thread and the response.

No. It really doesn't trigger. One has to reduce the file
to a semi-empty file with CR/LF to trigger it. Then the
updater runs and the update window goes invisible.

Hi

You had a dial up connection was it established when you
restarted MSAS ?

If it was, restart without connection and see if MSAS update
function
prompts you that a connection is needed.

Thanks - that's interesting--I wonder if this behavior will change, or
perhaps be documented, with further releases.
