I have a transferspreadhseet method which is uploading a worksheet into a
data table. How do I change the data type of the fields? Maybe with an Update
query. At the moment all data are imported as text, which creates problems
when trying to do calculations.

Access has "strong datatypes" - Excel doesn't. Access must guess at the
appropriate datatype when importing from Excel, and can often guess wrong!

One solution is to create a local Access table with the desired datatypes.
Rather than importing the spreadsheet into a new table, *link* to Excel and
run an Append query to migrate the data. If appropriate, you can first run a
Delete query to empty the previous records.
