I have enable the Autoupdater to check for updates every day at 12.00am!
The problem is that when AutoUpdater is enable it downloads the 5725 version
of definition files and when i do it my self it downloads the 5763 version!!!!
what is goin on?????it makes me crazy!!!!
Forgive about my English i am Greek!!!!
If anyone can help me i would be greatfull!!!Thaks!

Perform the update manually following that procedure:

Right click on MSAS icon within systray and choose shutdown.

Right click and "Save target as..."
http://download.spynet.com/ASDefinitions/gcDeterminationData.gcd

http://download.spynet.com/ASDefinitions/gcThreatAuditScanData.gcd

http://download.spynet.com/ASDefinitions/gcThreatAuditThreatData.gcd

Copy/paste these files to Program files/Microsoft Antispyware

Restart MSAS and "check for updates"

This is actually how the bug in MSAS update "exposes" itself - looks, like
update has been performed, but the signature files remain in older version.
The solution I quoted earlier is the only one known to get rid of this
problem. -- Pozdrawiam serdecznie / Kind regards Mikolaj Kaminski MS-MVP,

Thank you very much Engel for the help but i have another question too!
If i dont do the manual update and let the programm do it that means that it
wont be updated?Or it will be updated but it wont show it on to the files?
thanks again!!!!!!!!!!!

Hi again;

My belief is, it will be updated, but it wont show it.

Notice the size of the registry keys, between updates.

I hope this easy your mind.

Let me add something in my lasts sentence;

Unless the new update has been remove some false positives, the norm will be
each update a litle bit biger.

I have MSAS Version 1.0.615, with Spyware Definition Version: 5765
(9/10/2005 8:39:45 AM), per Help | "About ..."

I am using WinXp SP2, Firefox / Thunderbird [IE is not currently
opening any Internet URLs]

I have repeatedly done File | Check for Updates and get a window stating
that I have the current software and Definitions files.

I have used Engel's suggestions to "Right click and "Save target as ..."
for the three **.gcd" files. and then copied them to my MSAS directory
[confirmed that the file date is 10/8/05 using Windows Explorer]
However, I noticed that when I do Right Click on the properties of
gcDeterminationData.gcd it states that it has a created date of 6/9/2005.

I have warm rebooted my computer multiple times.

Why does not MSAS show the updated October Definitions?

Hello Texas Handly;

Open a Internet window and go to Internet Options, Delete Cookies and Temp
Files and included all offline content then also go to start and run and type
%temp% and clear that fºlder.

Empty your IE cache and your other temporary file folders, eg: c:\temp,
c:\windows\temp or C:\Documents and Settings\<name>\Local Settings\Temp (the
path to your temp folder will change depending on your name) - sometimes
programmes can be hidden in there - watch out for mysterious *.exe files or
*.dll files in those fºlders.
http://www.mvps.org/winhelp2002/delcache.htm

You can clear prefetch files by going to start menu and run and typing

prefetch

Prefetch files are there to help programs load/open quicker but they will
be replaced in prefetch when they are used agªin.

You may need to delete the MSAS folder in program files and run a registry
cleaner like Ccleaner after removing it from add/remove screen to fully
remove all traces of MS Antispy if it is a damaged installatiºn.

Before doing that it may be a good idea to run a couple of other scanners to
be sure there isnt malware problem's on the pc

Can you try these :

Ewido Security Suite:

Download Ewido scan

http://www.ewido.net/en/download/

*When installing, under "Additional Options" uncheck "Install background
guard" and "Install scan via context menu".
*Run Ewido. From the main ewido screen, click on update in the left menu,
then click the Start update buttºn.
*After the update finishes (the status bar at the bottom will display
"Update successful")

Now scan with Ewido. Click on the Scanner button in the left menu, then
click on Complete System Scan. This scan can take quite a while to run.

Once its started scanning it will display an alert window when it finds any
infected files, when you see this first alert check the boxes "Perform action
with all infections" and "Create encrypted backup" before clicking on ºk

When the scan finishes, If ewido finds anything in the scan click on "Save
Report". This will create a text file. Save to desktop or c:drive incase you
need to post it back.

While I posting Ewido does say its a 14 day free trial but it still works
fine after the trial has expired, All it does after the 14 days is stop the
real time protection and auto updates but I never advise that to be enabled
at setup anyway as it can interfere with other real time protection programs
plus the updates can be done manually anytime you wish so it may be usefull
to keep it incase you need to use it again in the future.

Next run the Housecall online virus scan located ªt:

http://housecall.trendmicro.com/housecall/start_corp.asp

Follow the prompts to scan your hard drive for viruses. Select the
"Autoclean" option so that Housecall will remove any viruses from your system.
When the scan is finished, please restart your cºmputer

If that fails to help things let us know and we can try fully removing MSAS
and all its files/folders & Registry entries then do a fresh instªll.

Just incase the scans are clear here's tips on fully removing MS Antispy and
performing a fresh instªll:

1. Goto Start Menu then Add/Remove Progrªms

Select Microsoft Antispyware and press Remºve

2. Goto C:/drive > Program Files and delete the MSAS fºlder

3. Goto Start Menu then search and select all files and folder's Search for
these files and delete them (They will be in system32)

gcUnCompress.dll
GCCollection.dll
hashlib.dll

4. Download and install Ccleªner

http://www.ccleaner.com/download124.asp

Open Ccleaner and press "Run Cleaner" from the menu choose 'Issues' and then
press scan for issues, Repair any fºund.

Rebººt

Then Visit Microsoft's site and reinstall MS Antispy:

http://www.microsoft.com/athome/security/spyware/software/default.mspx

Also check windows updates to make sure you have the latest security patches
and service packs instªlled :
http://windowsupdate.microsoft.com/

Good luck Texas.
