Update Presentation with Excel charts and tables

I have a program that I run frequently that creates an Excel file with
a bunch of tables and charts. When I present the results, I always
choose the same charts and tables for my presentation. What I would
like to do is open my presentation template, give it the location of
the Excel file that has the tables and charts, and then have it
automatically update with the correct data. (What I do now is copy/
paste each table or chart that I want to include.)

1- Can this be done?
2- Where do I start?
3- Does it matter that the Excel file contains embedded macros?
4- Can this be set up so that any changes I make to the Excel file are
reflected in the presentation?

Thanks-
Holly

Should be pretty easy to get what you're after.

Start with an already created Excel file; rename it to something that'll be
consistent. Let's say: DataSource.xls for now.

Put a copy of your Excel file renamed to DataSource.xls in the same folder as
your PPT file.

Now instead of copy/pasting stuff from DataSource.xls to PPT, you'll want to
select the content then switch to PPT and choose Paste Special ..., put a check
next to Link and click OK. This sets up a LINK to your content in the XL file
(and makes for nice small PPT presentation files as well).

As long as the program that creates your XLS files always puts the same content
in the same-named worksheets and locations, you should now be able to generate
a new XLS, drop a copy of it in the folder with the PPT, rename the Excel file
to DataSource.xls, open the PPT file and find it magically updated with the new
data. Same is true if you edit the contents of the existing DataSource.XLS.
