Yesterday I got a pop-up in the toolbar saying there was a new update ready
to download, and to click to start the download. I clicked, and nothing
happened. So I went to the update web site and did a scan for available
updates. I was told there were none. This has happened three times in the
last couple of months. I am set up to receive updates automatically.
Anyone have any idea what the problem might be?

Greetings:

On Desktop\My Computer\right click\Manage\Services and
Applications\Services\Auto Update Service\(must be running)

To see if problem is not due to registry settings.
Start Button\Run\type regedit.msc
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE_\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Policies\Explo
rer\
NoWindowsUpdate set value to 0

HKEY_LOCAL_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\
Policies\Explorer\NoWindowsUpdate set value to 0
Policies\WindowsUpdate\DisableWindowsUpdate set value to 0
Policies\WindowsUpdate\NoWindowsUpdate set value to 0

Hope this helps.
