According to Windows Update history, 1.14.1288.5 has been installed three
times automatically and three times manually since 03/03/2006. However when
I go to the Defender current version, it remains 1.13.128.1. Two questions:

Is anyone else having problem with this update?

Is there a fix?

Thanks!

Never mind - found solution in thread below - under FYI - WD New Def.
1.14.1288.5 Sorry I didn't look far enough. Thanks anyway.

Thanks for doing the research, sorry you had the problem, and I'm glad the
fix worked!

Experiencing same problem. Multiple updates of KB915597 for Defender file
1.14.1288.5. Also, if you use the Defender "check for updates" option under
the Help > About Defender tab, it returns "no updates" when on version
1.13.128.1.

I tried that too and it did not work. Could not find the installer. Verify
that you are the administrator.. this is too funny.....

I had the same problem - used the Windows Installer cleanup to remove the
entry referring to the definitions file, but not the one for the Defender
program - the next update worked - not sure why it worked though.

That's the process I would recommend to Aries--Windows Installer cleanup
tool, remove Windows Defender Signatures--then update.

I did that. Got the message "installation source for this product is not
available. Verify that the source exists and that you can access it."

So I used "add and remove programs" to uninstall WD after I downloaded
another copy. The new copy has a signature file of 1.0.0.0.

Is that what it is supposed to be?

I don't know what else to try.

When I type in "msiexec" and run I see that my installer is version
3.01.400.1823.

Shall I go and install a new installer?

Soory, ignore; I just checked and with that update installed, msiexec does
show the version you posted; don't know why.

You are seeing the expected after a fresh install.

So--now try both Windows Update, and help, about, check for updates--It is
quite possible that one will work and the other not--or both may work.

Windows Defender Live (Beta), help needed from Microsoft.
Except for the new download Signature Version 1.14.1314.1, all previous
versions have fallen into a loop to High Priority Definition Update
1.14.1314.1 for Beta Windows Defender (KB915597). The users of the Windows
OneCare Live (Beta) have downloaded automatically the file in excess of 54
times, as per the Update History, with no positive results. Previous results
of the Windows Defender (Beta) Definition Updates that worked are:
1.13.1276.3, 1.13.1272.4, 1.13.1276.16, 1.13.1282.6 and 1.13.1386.1 with KB
892519, 892519, 892519, 915597 and 915597 respectively. The loop failure
started when trying to update to 1.13.1288.5 and 1.13.1314.1 both with
KB915597, from older Signature Versions. Worst of all, no removal of the
Defender beta is possible nor installation of the newer 1314 version ontop of
the other.
