Wait a second ... I've been using version 6.4.8.2 which is 1.2 MB.
But this new one is 4.5 MB! What's the deal?

Could you post the link you used? I DL'd earlier and resulting file
also 4.5 Mb (4.51 Mb actually).
Quite some hike in file size. But a *lot* of changes have been made to
the prog as indicated on the project's release page. Maybe MPC is
heading for bloatware staus ;-)
I e-mailed Gabest, the project author, about this. Maybe he can shed some
light on why the file size suddenly almost quadrupled for an incremental
update.

Got quick replies! He said that MPC is no longer compressed with
UPX. "Yes," he added, "there was this little auto-unpacker placed
before the real exe, like a self-decompressing archive." I guess
it might be a loading-speed issue? Whatever the case, this
explains the sharp increase in size.
Why update it anyway? Most people merely use it as a player for Real
Alternative and Quicktime Alternative. As long as there's Winamp, there's
no need for any other media player.

Just installed the latest
Real Alternative and QuickTime Alternative
Homepage: http://www.codecguide.com/
The Alternative installer re-compresses the MPC to 1.7 Mb!
