Hello:
I am using a windows 2000 (SP4) platform. When I click on START >> WINDOWS
UPDATE I can arrange to have files automatically downloaded to update my
computer.
* When these files are automatically downloaded, where are they stored or
located on my local hard drive?
Thanks.
They are downloaded to "C:\WINDOWS\SoftwareDistribution\Download and put
in a multi-lettered/numbered folder such as
"1aada90d3aca2362b0231ac90aa9a9fd."
When they are installed a folder named "install" is created in the
"C:\WINDOWS\SoftwareDistribution\Download" directory and the .exe files
that install the updates are put there. If you are fast enough you can
copy these files before they finish installing because once they have
installed, they are deleted along with the install folder. Sometimes the
install folder and these files will remain until you reboot, but they
are normally auto-deleted after the install finishes.
The way I've done it is to have windows explorer open to this area when
installing updates and copy the files to my documents during the
install. I always have automatic updates off and open windows updates in
ie. Then I turn auto-updates back on after installing the updates and
rebooting. I've obtained most of the win200 updates by this method.
