ok, so I do a "edit\special paste\paste link\Microsoft
excel Worksheet object" from a XLS spread sheet onto a
PPT page and the image (that gets paste) comes out
readable. Then i do an "update link" and all the numeric
characters get distorted. This only happen when i do
an "UPDATE LINK" help!!!!!

luisp,
This issue has been brought up a number of times and many of us have
tried to replicate it, abeit unsuccessfully. But we know it exists so
don't think we think you are crazy.

OLE linking is a wonderful thing, yet can be very fragile.

Things I'd look for as a test are can you create a simple XL file,
save it and link from it to PPT. Save PPT and close everything and
reopen and update links.

If that doesn't work, it'd likely lie in the computer, e.g. video
drivers, hardware acceleration and the other likely suspects.

If that works, then it likely lies in something you are doing in XL,
e.g. resizing Zoom settings. pasting charts from locations on the
worksheet that are not "in view" when XL is saved and closed.

Can you test some of this and get us some more information, or feel
free to email me the two files for testing on my machines which
"always (most of the time) work correctly". Also post what versions of
OS and Office you are using and if you have more than one version of
Office installed on machines that do not update correctly.

This one is a tough one to pin down.

luisp,
I knew we knew more about this from before.
I spoke to one of the PTB to day, he may drop in and clean up this
mess for you, but this has been addressed and handled. But he's going
to ask the same following issues, probably, just more politely. (g)

Here's the basic advice since we don't know what versions of whatever
you are using. Apply all Service Packs and get up to date. I suspect
that you, like many folks, are not entirely up to date. If you are on
a Corporate Network that doesn't let you do this, beat the living crap
out of tthe Sys Admins to get current.

Let us know the Versions of XL and PPT including what Sevice Packs are
installed, including the same for the OS you are running and whether
you are runnning on a network or not.

To summarize, this issue has been mostly, if not completely resolved.
My best guess is to just get you back up to date to resolve the issue

Brian,

I have noticed the same problem in Office Version 2002 and 2003 in
differents computers. We have our Corporate version actualized with every
Service Packs we've found but the problem continues.

Actually my PPoint version is 2003(11.5529.5606) from Ms Office Professional
Edition 2003.

I'd be very important for us to find a solution, because we use "link and
update" almost every day

Thanks
