MS Update KB955428 released 8/12/08 for works 8 will not install. I have
Vista Home Premium with Works 8.5 (O.E.M) which came with the computer.
When trying to install update Error message 8024002D comes up. "The feature
you are trying to use is on a network resource that is unavailable" and then
something like needs a .msi extension.
Any help would be appreciated

I have tried all the recommendations for this update but sicne I don't have
winzip, my free period ran out, it iwll not install any ideas?

Put your OEM CD in your CD-ROM and then install it manually after downloading this Update . Make sure the OEM CD stays in while installing

http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/...c3-9c6f-4049-81cd-0d0389c81f11&DisplayLang=en

Instructions
1. Download the file by clicking the Download button (above) and saving the
file to your hard disk.
2. Double-click the .msp file on your hard disk to start the Setup program.
3. Follow the instructions on the screen to complete the installation.

There is no OEM CD as this program is on the hard drive installed by the
manufacturer (Hewlitt Packard)

I also have Vista and when Windows Update attempted to install KB955428 I got
the same prompt to insert media. I went to the Microsoft site and the
write-up for KB955428 shows that it is specific to MS Works 8, NOT MS Works
8.5. I am not going to install it and give the MS idiots a chance to fix
Windows Update. So, I will just live with it for a few days and then
hopefully it will dissapear out of my Windows Updates "View Available
Updates" panel.

Ward, try going to Microsoft.com and do search for KB955428. This is the
number for the complete Works 8 Update. Download and install the file. Then
run Update again. Worked for me.

Ok, I am receiving the same error message read the post about going to the
MS website and was wondering, do I download all of the files listed or what?
Could someone give me step by step instructions on which files to install to
perform the update?

An eighth grader could figure that out.

HINT: Each of those files is for a different language.

This is what I did and it works. I tried to keep it simple so that evern
beginnes can
follow what to do.

First go to the Download at:

http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/...c3-9c6f-4049-81cd-0d0389c81f11&DisplayLang=en

Then on the bottom of the page select the download you need,( for English it
is KB955428_en-US.cab) and click download.
Then click OPEN
Then in new window, click the icon and then select DESKTOP and click EXTRACT

This will put the file on your Desktop. Close all open windows.
On the desktop, click the update Shortcut you just created and allow it to
install Note: There may not be any indication of its installing so just give
it time to
Install. Also if you have a WORKS shortcut on you desktop, it may disappear.

Then check to see if the update installed, go to INSTALLED UPDATES
CONTROL PANEL>PROGRAMS AND FEATURES>VIEW INSTALLED UPDATES (In the Left side
Panel) and look for Microsoft Works and if the
Update is listed, If it is, then it is installed,

Then you can replace your Works Shortcut and delete the Update shortcut on
your desktop

I hope this helps
