Thanks again for your assistance. Obviously you are experienced with
computers and very confident about this. However I checked in the
Accessories folder as suggested and in my computer it is empty. In a
"Search" for Wordpad however it came up with 18 references for Wordpad in
C:\1386 that used 4 different file names: EX_file, IN-file, CH_ and HL_
I was unable to open any of them. I have noticed before that Hewlett
Packard load their programs like Windows XP Home on computers not
necessarily identical to the original. I noticed in the Windows file
association website that there are several free download programs to open
assorted files. As I am not a computer wizard the question is do I need to
go through this procedure plus other possible problems hoping I'll be
successful just to confirm a particular Wordpad version?
Perhaps I should go with the Windows Update indication that KB923561 was
installed successfully.
As I stated in a previous reply to you, "wordpad.exe" should be located in
the following folder on your hard drive:
C:\Program Files\Windows NT\Accessories
If it's not located there then you have somehow deleted it from your
machine("it is a common mistake people make when doing a thorough clean-up
of their computer"), and that is why Belarc is flagging it(because it can
not find the file "wordpad.exe").
Use ADD|REMOVE Programs to uninstall KB923561, then check to see if the
uninstall process put "wordpad.exe" back into the following folder:
C:\Program Files\Windows NT\Accessories
If it did, then download the manual install package for KB923561 and install
it to updade "wordpad.exe".

If no joy, remove KB923561 once again using ADD|Remove Programs.
Following the instructions here for installing WordPad:
http://www.ehow.com/how_5087979_reinstall-wordpad.html
Then reinstall KB923561:

Good luck,
