AFTER UPGRADING ON JUNE 20,2004 COMPUTER IS SO SLOW IT
TOOK 48 HOURS TO SCAN FOR A VIRUS. I KNOW NOW IT IS THE
UPGRADE THAT IS CAUSING THE PROBLEM. HOW DO I UNINSTALL
OR DELETE EVERYTHING SINCE JUNE 19TH? CPU IS RUNNING AT
100% LOTS OF MEMORY. NO VIRUSES. WHAT UPDATES ARE THE
MOST CURRENT AS OF JUNE 20, 2004

If you don't have a backup, then format and reinstall OS, since many
hotfixes are non-removable. Incidentally, the update also seems to have
broken your CAPS LOCK key unless you are just trying to be hard to read.

I have a similar situation on a Toshiba Satellite Pro 4200
laptop.
I updated to windows 2000 SP4 yesterday and all was fine.
Ran another windows update today, it found another 20+
patches required and now after successfully applying them
the machine is practically dead. The System process is
using 99-100% all the time.

It takes 5-10 minutes to open up anything. I haven't
managed to get add/remove programs to work yet to try and
uninstall the recent patches.

My CAPS LOCK appears to be working ok though (!!)

any guesses anybody?

Hello,

you seem to have the same issue. I installed the update
KB835732 - it is known by Microsoft that it causes the
above problem. The system tries to load some drivers and
tries and tries and tries . . .see MS Message / Knwoledge
Base article 841382. Microsoft has a patch for the
problem - but your PC still needs a valid service
agreement or you need to pay for the patch. My PC is
older than a year - so my service just expired.

I am trying to get the patch for now - if this helps you
and you receive the patch please forward.

KB835732 a.k.a. the patch from h3ll is, IMO, best installed in safe mode.
After reading horror story after horror story in this and other groups, I
found a post that suggested that this thing be installed in Safe Mode from a
local directory as the local admin. Since I needed to install the patch on a
lot of machines I gave it a try. So far I'm batting a 1000. I've installed
this on production machines and client's machines with no issues so far.

Your mileage may vary but its worth a try.
