Are the downloaded Update files from the Windows Update
site stored on a hard-disc location (directory)?
I need to re-install XP Home, and don't want to download
all of them again.
If yes, can i use them after the re-install?

This procedure requires the WIN XP CD.

Go into your BIOS and make your CDROM your first boot
device, at the same time, DISABLE second and third boot
devices, put your Win XP cd in the drive, save and exit.

Reboot.

When you get to the setup screen, make like you were doing
a fresh install and when you get to the "Select a
partition to install to" you need to select the
partition/drive that Win XP is ALREADY on, and click OK.

You will then be presented with a message along the lines
of "XP already detected on this partition, would you like
to repair?"

Click Yes/Ok to repair your XP without losing any data or
settings.

You will still have to reinstall all the updates from the site with this
method. I did the repair and all my files were ok but make sure you backup
My Documents. I believe you will have a new version upon repair or at least
the option to put in a new one. You will have to update all the Microsoft
files though.
