Still cannot update (nor LiveUpdate) due to firewall issues. Can't use
windows update and tried fixes and kb articles mentioned in this newsgroup -
nogo. Bottom line, probably need to be able to download updates and/or
signature files and install manually. Any way to do this yet?

I know that alternative ways of distributing or getting updates are still
under consideration, so keep the feedback coming.

Some folks have worked out ways of doing manual updates. If you've got a
machine which can get updates, research in the %windir%\windowsupdate.log
file can get you the direct path to the downloaded executable.

If "firewall issues" is code for "the network administrators don't want this
app running on their network, and thus are not willing to provide updates
for it"--you may want to consider whether company policy in this regard has
teeth.

Good direction and thanks for the reply. No policy against the app, just the
live-update ability. I will get a computer that can update and view the
logfile for the path. If anyone can send the path, that would be helpful,
too. Learned something new :)

Thanks again!

If you search these groups for posts from Simon Zerafa--I think in .install,
but perhaps others, he's posted some specifics, as I recall.

Windows Defender Live (Beta), help needed from Microsoft.
Except for the new download Signature Version 1.14.1314.1, all previous
versions have fallen into a loop to High Priority Definition Update
1.14.1314.1 for Beta Windows Defender (KB915597). The users of the Windows
OneCare Live (Beta) have downloaded automatically the file in excess of 54
times, as per the Update History, with no positive results. Previous results
of the Windows Defender (Beta) Definition Updates that worked are:
1.13.1276.3, 1.13.1272.4, 1.13.1276.16, 1.13.1282.6 and 1.13.1386.1 with KB
892519, 892519, 892519, 915597 and 915597 respectively. The loop failure
started when trying to update to 1.13.1288.5 and 1.13.1314.1 both with
KB915597, from older Signature Versions. Worst of all, no removal of the
Defender beta is possible nor installation of the newer 1314 version ontop of
the other.
Microsoft, please read also the many complains in the Discussion Groups Home
