I use XP Home (ver. 5.1, Build 2600 XPSP2.######-####
Service Pack 1). This is verified when I run winver. Also,
I use IE 6.0.2800.1106.XPSP2.######-#### (same #s as
above). When I try to run Windows Update I get this
message back from
http://v4.windowsupdate.microsoft.com/en/default.asp:
THANK YOU FOR YOUR INTEREST IN WINDOWS UPDATE
Line 2 is a commercial
YOU MUST BE RUNNING AN MS WINDOWS OS TO USE THIS SERVICE.
Other pertainent facts: I use Norton SystemWorks &
Internet Security (both Pro 2003) and AdAware 6.
Recently, I Created a restore point;
Installed Spybot Search & Destroy ver 1.2;
Created another restore point;
Win AutoUpdate d/l'ed and installed several security
updates;
Created another restore point;
Ran S&D and deleted all Spyware & Tracking Cookies that S&D
marked in RED! (except for 2 files clearly related to
Windows, and anything related to Norton);
Getting frustrated with S&D's installation, I used Norton
SW Utility Uninstall Program to remove it.
I believe I can recover to any point, and that even the
S&D program is backed up by NSW somewhere, so maybe all
is not lost.
Anyone have any thoughts/advice/answers? HELP!
Thanks,
Big Al :-(
