update deletes files?

Just curious... Can an update(service pack/rollup) delete
operating system files/utilities/programs etc.. that
microsoft feels you system no longer needs or doesn't want
you to have? For example, if I had Bootvis.exe in my
system32 file and microsoft decided it would no longer
support the utility could they remove it via an update?

Updates are arbitrary programs, of course they could. That does not mean
that they did. That would actually be inconsistent with their track
record.
