I recently had a problem with booting windows because of corrupt files in the
"C:\WINDOWS\system32\config\" folder (SAM, system etc). I used the XP boot
disk to do a manual repair and copied over the files needed from
"C:\WINDOWS\repair".
Now the system boots fine, but the problem is that those files were way out
of date (2004), so all my settings (including icons, add or remove programs
entries, comp name etc) have changed back to what they were at that date. I
can fix this pretty easily by copying them over from another identical
system, or just re-imaging. I would just like to know if there is some way
that I can force XP to update these files. Of course I cannot do this
manually whilst windows is running, but is there some way to get windows to
do it for me?
