update Bios to use E and D drives

Since I installed XPpro, I can not use either DVD or CD-R or even play audio. After asking many techies and reading info, I need to upgrade my Bios. I have reached the point where I have downloaded MS DOS Start-up disk and downloaded the correct versions of the BIOS upgrade on the same disk as instructed from the 1st mainboard site but I can not restart the PC in DOD even thought I have the start up disk in the A:\drive can someone advise.
 
During the boot up of you PC, enter the BIOS set up screen and make sure the
drive boot-up sequence has the Floppy drive as the first booting drive.
