:I had to update KB967715 AGAIN ! What gives with that update anyway?

Daave,
I went to the link you suggested and uninstalled RoxioDLA like it advised.
We'll see if that fixes things.

Nothing seems to work. I am giving up on KB967715 and will not even try to
install it again. I'm doing okay with
out it, so who needs it anyway?

If you change your mind, you will probably get a solution if you post to
microsoft.public.windowsupdate. Make sure you give details of the steps
you did (perhaps you missed an important step).

Daave, I have been using microsoft.public.windowsupdate all along. No help
there.
This whole thing has been a losing battle and I am calling it quits.

I understand your frustration, Claire, but saying "nothing works" is not
enough information. People *have* found solutions to this problem. If
someone else's solution doesn't work for you, you need to make sure you
give as many details as possible when you post there. Otherwise, no one
will know what is happening in your particular situation and no one will
be able to offer advice that is unique to *your* situation.

Daave,
I THINK I have figured out what was going wrong. The KB967715 update is
indeed installed. There was another update that wasn't getting installed.
I went into Windows
Update and cancelled it. Now the Shut Down button is clean. We will find
out if I am right and if it is settled.???? Thanks for your confidence in
me.

Daave,
Since I was still plagued today by that infernal update, I changed from
automatic updates to : notify me but don't automatically download or install
them. Seem like the best thing to do. ?????

Best thing to do is to shut off auto updates and never use it. I agree with
Daave----I don't use auto update either.
At your leisure once a week or so just click on Windows Update. (Update
manually ---far less problems).

Since I shut off automatic updates, I don't hear about any updates
anymore.. Ignorance is bliss. Will check things out in a couple of days.

Do you mean you turned it off completely? If so, it is important to get
into the habit of regularly visiting windowsupdate.com (once a week).
Again, only install the Critical Updates.

5. None of the above (because in reality, none are *really*
"critical").

You may not think security patches are important, but others would
certainly disagree. Just consider the folks who have been infected with
Conficker, which can happen merely by *visiting* a Web page that at some
point became compromised. Had they been running with the latest security
patch, they would not have become infected.

Perhaps the solution is not to visit such web pages in the first place.
How many GOOD web pages get infected?
