Sorry for the multiple posts with all the addition. But new light keeps
getting shed on this subject as the days go on.

I'm pretty sure this whole problem has to due with the "Sent Mailbox".

It is telling me that there are 905 in the mailbox.

I think it is full/overfull and cannot handle any more. but the program will
not allow me to change where sent emails go. I can stop from posting sent
emails to it but not change it.

Emails do get sent but they stay in the inbox instead of getting moved to
the sent box.
If I send one to myself, I get it, but it stays in the outbox.

How do I unload this "Sent" folder?? to see if this reall is the problem??

Have you run the inbox repair tool (scanpst.exe) against your PST file(s)?

And by the way, yes, PST files have size/item count limitations. What
version of Microsoft Outlook are you running so this info can be shared with
you. (by the way 905 items isn't even close to the max for how many items
can be stored in 1 folder.)

I'm using Office 2007

That fixed the problem of the outgoing emails not moving from the out box to
the send folder.

It also fixed the problem of not being able to see any emails in the sent
folder.

I have archived the Personal Folders.

While archiving I got this message:

"Error while archiving folder "Sent Items" in "Personal Folders"

I have gone into the Sent folder to view sent emails. I can view all of
them. I cannot delete some of them. It starts on 9/14/07 and gose back to the
very first one sent. When I try and delete them this is what I get:

"The messaging interface has returned an unknown error. If problem persists,
restart outlook"

Restarting outlook does not clear this message.

I am not opposed to clearing out the Sent Email folder completely if I have
to.

Everything went fine till it hit the "Sent Folder"

Here is the error I got:

"Error while archiving folder "Sent Items" in store "Personal Folders"

Went into the "Sent Folder" and could see the sent emails.

But when I got to about September where the Archive started, I could see
those emails sent but when I tried to open one this is what comae up:

Right click on the "Sent Items" folder > Select Properties > AutoArchive
tab. What criteria is set here? If it is set to the default settings, then
review the default settings. What you want to check is that you can reach
the drive/path specified for the archive PST file.

You may have to run the inbox repair tool against the archive pst file.

If still getting the error message during archive, I would create/specify a
new PST file to archive to.

Now for PST file/size limits. Outlook 2007 supports two different type of
PST files.

* Microsoft Outlook Personal Folders - Unknown item count. 20GB Max file
size (can be increased
via a registry setting)

* Outlook 97/2002 Personal Folders - 65,535 items per folder. 2GB Max File
size (can't be changed)

Just so you know, legacy (97/2002) PST files are not auto-magically
converted to the new format. Only way to get items from the old format to
the new is via copy/paste/import/export.

The properties on the "Sent Item" folder are the default settings and the
path does lead to the archive PST file.

I have run Scanpst.exe on the Personel file and the archive file. Neither
are coming back with errors.

But I still get the "Unknown Error" when I try and delete certain items out
of the "Sent Item" folder.

Is there a way to just clear this file out completely and start fresh?? It
seems to be only items that are in September and back that are giving the
error here. I can read them but connot delete them.

I would use the mail applet in the control panel to create a new PST file
and set it as your default delivery location. Start Outlook and then copy
items from your old pst to the new one. Close Outlook. Remove the old PST
file from your e-mail profile and then delete old PST file.

That looks like a plan that might work.

I have looked at the mail applet and when I go to create the new PST file it
shows the same location that the Archive and Outlook pst files are. There is
no "Personal Folder" listed there. Is this where that should go or should it
go somewhere else??

To copy from one to the other you just select all item is a specific folder
and copy it to the new corresponding PST folder??

Bob

I don't have Outlook 2007, but it sounds like you are in the right place of
control panel > mail applet > data files > add > office outlook personal
folders... .etc.

Yes to the select all question. (For contacts, calendar, .etc, you might
find it easier to switch your view to by category so you get a nice table
view of the items in the folder.)

One last question about this....

By making this new "Personal Folder" and copying everything over to it, will
I have to do anything with my "Contacts" or "Calender". I think that data is
stored in a different file but just want to make sure before I start.

Bob

Other than move over the items, I can't think of anything special....

Oh, you might want to bring up the address book (ctrl + shift +b) and verify
that you can see your contacts after moving from old to new pst file. If
can't see them in the address book, just need to configure it to show up.
(e.g. right click on contacts folder and select properties > outlook address
book. make sure it has a name and is checked to show. not sure if 2007 is
the same as 2003, but when the address book (ctrl + shift +b) is open, pick
tools > options and verify the settings.)

Nope. All your Outlook data is kept in the same file. If you copy the data
correctly and the new file is your delivery location, everything should work
as is proper.
