Hello Everyone. I just reinstalled windows 2000 and I have forgotten where I
put my winzip software cd. I want to know if there is any free zip software
out there somewhere on the web cause I have a lot of huge files to unzip.
I also want to know why Windows doesn't have a built in Unzipping program.

Thanks
Paddy

Yes, there are lots of shareware/commercial zip software like Winzip and
PKZip and some free/open source alternatives.

There are free command line tools like UnxUtils that contains zip/unzip
tools: http://UnxUtils.sourceforge.net

There are also free tools with graphical user interface like 7-Zip.
7-Zip has an own very space-efficient archive format but supports
standard zip archives as well:

I also want to know why Windows doesn't have a built in Unzipping program.

Windows XP and later has built-in shell support for zipping/unzipping
but not Windows 2000 or older.

Paddy check out winzip.com (although its a trial software, once u have it u
can keep on using it.) Tats a good question why OS System has no zip program
- guess so they let other people make some $$$ too, or B.Gates has not found
any to consider

I have tried a lot of free zip programs, and the one that works the best for
me is zipgenius. It also includes some of 7zip things. The only thing I dont
like about zg is it does not do rar zips, but is about the easiest to use.
Norton used to have (on their "secret stuff" disk) a program called zip-it. I
really liked that, but it would not work on xp, and Norton now says it is not
theirs, and they never supplied it? Isnt Norton grand?
