Let it scan, find the updates in question, uncheck them, expand them,
check the HIDE checkbox.
But for some reason that's not doable with SP3. I'm rebuilding a
machine for a relative, an unknown Walmart special brand (Balance Intel
Celeron) and when SP3 installed it borked the machine. So I downloaded
the applicable SP3 version to disk and installed it; same thing. Backed
up to virgin OS, installed SP2, then SP3, nothing but OS, firewall and
NAT router, installed, and it borked again.
But turn it off or hide it? Apparently it's not possible. Also, the
only way I could get the machine to download the SP2 updates was to use
the Express methods all the way through every choice. Then it finally
offered the 97 updates and they installed fine, with two more to come
after the 1st 97. I couldn't find an option anywhere to hide the SP3
like the other updates all offer.
I wonder how long they'll keep the old SP2 updates available before
only offering SP3?
Is it time to download all of the updates to disk? Not a task I
relish, but ... I don't trust MS to force SP3 and do away with per-SP3
updates.
Funny thing is, my current P4 Gaetway only gets the SP2 updates. It
never offers me SP3. So maybe I hid it for this machine somehow, but if
I did, I sure don't recall doing it.
Any idea what I might have missed?

Twayne
