Unwanted system sounds

A program I experimented with a few months ago added (at my direction) a sound scheme to
Explorer. Now, every time I do something I am rewarded with the sound of a cash register.
The program has been removed but the sound lingers on. How can I shut it up?

Good idea. But no joy. All sounds are removed from the control panel. I tried every .wav
file on the disk to find and delete it -- without luck. I was wrong about the cash
register; it's more like a going into a slot.

Re-install the program and upon installation set the option again. Test and then if OK uninstall

I'm having a similar problem with IE6 that only began a week or so ago. Each
time a web page loads there is a whurring sounds that I would describe as
either a zipper or a zzzzzzzzzzzz sound. I went to IE options and turned off
the sound option when a popup is blocked. I went to the control panel-sounds
page and reviewed every sound there; none were even remotely similar to the
sound I am experiencing. I ran Norton AV to make sure there were no viruses
running. Finally, I ran Webroot Spywatcher. All to no avail. The sound
keeps occuring. Any thoughts?
