Is there a way to prevent website from putting software on my computer.
I get this crap like LYCOS SEARCH and different TOOLBARS, etc
that I find within C:\program files or when viewing add/remove software.

And it's junk I never downloaded It messes up the registry also.

Assuming you are using Internet Explorer, open Tools, Internet Options and change the settings under Security and then Privacy to reflect a level you are happier with, my suggestion, given your current predicament would be to set i
as high as you can
Further to that, try using a program such as ad-aware (http://www.lavasoft.de), keeping it up to date and scanning two or three times a week you should be well satisfied! additionally you could install the msn toolbar for ie which prevents pop-ups and such nasties doing there own thing! http://toolbar.msn.com

Paul;
Right click the IE icon | Properties | Advanced tab |
Make sure both of these are NOT checked.
 Enable Install On Demand (Internet Explorer)
[[Specifies to automatically download and install Internet Explorer
components if a Web page needs them in order to display the page properly or
perform a particular task.]]
 Enable Install On Demand (Other)
[[Specifies to automatically download and install Web components if a Web
page needs them in order to display the page properly or perform a
particular task.]]

Apply | OK
