Hi
My wife recently opened a piece of spam email (!!) and it
seems that within the email something went and updated
some registry settings. Now when typing an address into
explorer 6 it redirects her to another page and or sets
off some pop up that wants to download a dialer or
similar. It seems that some registry settings in
hkeycurrent user - search bar and search page to name
but 2 have been cheanged to point to the unwanted web
page. There must be other changes - to cause the pop ups
etc.
1. How can I get the registry settings back to the
default for explorer to stop this misbehaviour?
2. How can I prevent this from happening - without
getting too restrictive (and yes I know, stop my dear
lady wife from opening spam email!!).

Thanks

Get and run these four programs (if you test after each one you can stop
when the problem is gone):
Ad-Aware:
http://www.lavasoftusa.com
and
Spybot - Search & Destroy -
http://security.kolla.de/
http://security.kolla.de/index.php?lang=en&page=download
http://spybot.eon.net.au/
http://www.tomcoyote.org/SPYBOT/
and
BHO Demon: http://www.spywareinfo.com/downloads/bhod/
and
SpywareBlaster:

Until the problem is solved.

Further advice available here:

If the problem site is your home page:

If the problem is a pop-up window, your computer may have been hijacked.

them in the future have a look at the link below:
