Unwanted Recepient

Using Outlook 2000 running under WindowsXP Professional.
Three accounts exist on this laptop system.
The account I set up for myself has Outlook configured for 3 accounts from
the same mailserver. This setup has been working fine for more than 2-
years.
I recently set my wife up on her own login to this system with Outlook
accessing the same mail server with a unique account. The login and the
account have existed for several years, only the Outlook setup is recent.
The problem is that one of her correspondents has made her aware that she
is receiving emails that my wife sends to others which are not intended for
her. I have examined the "Sent Items" folder and looked at the messages
that were incorrectly routed to this friend. I do not see this friend's
email address in the "To", "CC", or "BCC" fields. The only entry is the
email address of the intended recepient(s) in the "TO" field.

I'm at a loss as to how an email can be sent to a recepient that is not in
one of these fields. BTW, the system is running Norton Antivirus 2003 and
the email scanning is enabled.

I'd appreciate any ideas about where to look in an attempt to correct this
situation.

Any chance those messages are being forwarded (automatically or otherwise)
to the unintended recipient (UR) by the intended recipient (IR)?

Ben,
Thanks for your reply to my plight.
The answer to your question is no. In one instance one of my email
accounts was the intended so, for this case I know for sure that the
intended did not forward to the unintended friend.

Any chance the unintended friend is willing to forward to you one of these
messages, complete with the Internet headers? That might help troubleshoot.

Ben,
Thanks again!
That has already been done and there wasn't any clues in the header info.

Well...this is certainly an odd problem. In the headers was the unintended
recipient listed as the "TO" recipient or "CC" or anything?

No, that is the puzzling thing. I examined all the fields and the "To"
field was populated with the address of the intended recipient and that is
it. There were no entries in the "Cc" or "Bcc" fields.

Very, very odd. Does it matter who the intended recipient is? Does the
unintended recipient receive copies of ALL messages sent or only those sent
to certain intended recipients?

Only a couple of intendeds have been identified so far as being received by
the unintended recipient as well.

Well...I'm stumped. Obviously there must be a reason for it, but I'll be
darned if I know what it is. SOUNDS like the unintended is getting BCC'd on
those outgoing messages. I assume you've already checked the Sent Items
folder carefully and inspected those items that had gone to the unintended
as well.

I'm stumped also. All fields have been scrutinized with no obvious reason
as to what is going on. A couple of days ago I did a "Detect and Repair"
for Outlook and I guess it is a matter of monitoring email traffic to see
if the "unwanted recipient" situation continues.

Thanks Ben, for you consulations!
