Henry

I'm using Excel for Mac 2011, version 14.0.2. I like to keep Excel
running, but often with no documents open. When I click on the Excel
icon in the Dock to make it the active application, it automatically
opens a new worksheet. I don't want this but I couldn't find any place
in the Preferences to turn it off. Advice?

Thanks in advance.

cheers,

Henry

I'm not certain, Henry, but I don't think you can actually prevent it
from appearing. You can make it go away by pressing Ctrl-W (at least
in Excel 2010).

However (at least in Excel 2010), when you open a real workbook the
default blank workbook disappears.

Thanks, Stan. You're absolutely right. I never got that far :-)
I always closed the new workbook I didn't want before opening the one I
did want from the Open Recent menu.

Live and learn -- or, ask on usenet! :-)
