unwanted files and icons from AOL!

How do I remove unwanted files and icons that are now
showing up on the start screen and on the "c" disc under
favorites? I never entered anything, other than to look
up information about AOL. The next thing I notice, is
that these sites can not be deleted!! A message always
appears to "delete shortcuts". I called AOL and they say
that they can not help...

of the spyware AOL installed. Another good reason to keep far away from AOL.
