I have recently removed a dvd drive but it is still displayed under my
computer. How can I remove it?

Thanks Lee

Hi

The drive is disabled in the BIOS. The problem, I believe, is concerning
the OS. I am running XP Home SP2. All I want to do is remove it from "My
Computer". The reason for this is I am training my other half to use the
computer and dont want any anomolies to confuse her. She is a technophobe.

Did you also remove the A drive?

If it doesn't exist it shouldn't show. What do you get if you r-click
the Icon and click properties?

Hi LeeG
Hi

Still no show in device manager

I once had a similar problem with a Network Card. I removed it without
uninstalling it. And it made problems for me, I found this article,
eventhough it's written for Windows 2000 it works in XP too:

http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx?scid=kb;en-us;241257

Another solution is:

Show Hidden Devices

You can show hidden devices in the Device Manager. One way is by
making a simple registry change. The other is through a batch file.

Registry Change:

1.

Go to HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE \ SYSTEM \ ControlSet001 \ Control \
Session Manager \ Environment
2.

Create a string DEVMGR_SHOW_NONPRESENT_DEVICES
3.

Give it a value of 1

Regards Leif.

Thanks
