Unwanted Desktop Icons

I was transferring picture files to my desktop so I could drag them to a CD.
Now I have all these unwanted files on my desktop. When I delete them they
reappear. I have used the Desktop Cleanup Wizard and the Manual method but
they keep reapearing on the Desktop. Even after rebooting the come back.
HELP.....

What happens if you delete them in safe Mode?
