I have a nagging problem of the (not 1 but 2) cmd appears for a few seconds
on my Desktop whenever i start up Win XP Home. I checked Start up on
msconfig but there was nothing there. This is not a big problem but its one
i would like to clear up.

Any Help..someone?
thanks

You should be able to find out where it is started with Autoruns by
SysInternals, look for it on the Microsoft site. Be careful with this
tool, don't disable things you are unsure of!

Without knowing what's starting up on your machine it's impossible to
say, but John's advice is solid. A program called WinPatrol can be
really useful for t hese things, too.

i did a check on that and found nothing there. i did come across something
refering to jc.exe what ever that is. i ran all my virus software and
spybot s/e but the thing still happens at start up. two command boxes
(C:\windows\system32\cmd.exe) appear for a few seconds then go away when my
desktop starts to come on.

thanks.i'll keep searching

You won't find any references to cmd.exe when you look at the startup
items with Autoruns. Cmd.exe is simply running commands for another
startup item, it could be a simple batch file to capture a printer or
map a drive or set other user preferences, or it could be a sub routine
for another program that is starting and that needs to execute a command
or batch file of its own. You will have to dig deeper into your startup
items.

thanks John. I seemed to have fixed the problem. I ran HijackThis and on
an 04 line there was a jv code that i unchecked and it solved the cmd boxes
from appearing during start up. hopefully this cured the situation..
