Without instructions Word 2000 will capitalize the first letter of a new
line of type. I can find no Tools>Options>whatever to control this. Please
help.

Thanks Rob, but as a newbie I need more explicit directions. I can go to
Tools>Autocorrect OK, but the 2nd Autocorrect puzzles me, even though you
said 'not a typo.' Where or what is the 2nd Autocorrect? And how do I
handle it? Thanks again.

Sorry.
After "Tools->Autocorrect" you should be looking at a tabbed page.
The tabs will say "Autocorrect", "AutoFormat As You Type", "AutoText"
and "Autoformat".
Select (click) the "Autocorrect" tab if it's not already displayed.
The second checkbox says "Capitalize first letter of sentences" -
uncheck it.

If Word is capitalizing the first letter of a new line, then you must be
pressing Enter at the end of the previous line, thus starting a new
paragraph. Word assumes that a new paragraph begins a new sentence and is
capitalizing the first letter of a sentence (an action that can be
controlled, as others have told you, from Tools | AutoCorrect). The solution
in this case, however, is not to press Enter. Let the lines wrap naturally.
If you must end a line short, use a line break (Shift+Enter) instead of a
paragraph break.
