Unwanted call to Windows Installer

When I launch Word 2002 my Windows 2000 calls Windows
Installer and starts searching for my installation disk.
I have to cancel Installer by clicking "Cancel" in the
Preparing To Install dialogue box. Once I do that,
Winword.EXE launches and runs normally. This annoyance
happens on every launch.

Sounds like you don't have a full install of Office. Have you tried putting
in the Office CD when prompted and letting it do what it wants, to see if
this resolves the problem?

Hi Vade,

You could try to determine the cause of the on-demand installation by opening Event
Viewer (eventvwr.msc), looking in the Application Log for Source: MsiInstaller -
Warning Messages Event numbers 1001 and 1004, double-clicking the events and reading
the Description.

And if you need more details, the Group Policy snap-in provides built-in features for
setting Windows Installer Logging. For more information, run gpedit.msc and read the
text on the Explain tab of the following Policy:

Computer Configuration\Administrative Templates\Windows Components\Windows Installer:
Logging

You may also want to try posting to one of the many Office forums.
