Hi,
I have a browser I do not know how to get rid of. It is
passthison.com -- Microsoft Internet Explorer. It has a
close window message and when I click on it, my screen is
blank for a minute or longer. Most times I have to shut
off the computer manually because it even blanks out the
start button. If I go on Yahoo, it kicks it off unless I
am fast enough to click on the X to close that program.
This browser does not offer very nice things. I do NOT
want it. Can someone please help me by sending
instructions on how to get rid of it. I don't even know
if I chose the right newsgroup for this question. I am
not an expert on the computer. Thank you for whatever
help you can give.

Rita

Hi Rita,

To remove software from your computer select the Start/Settings/Control
Panel menu option from your Taskbar. This will display your Control Panel
Folder. There you should see an Icon with the caption 'Add/Remove Programs'.
Click on it to open it. This program will display a list of software that
has been installed on your computer and which can be un-installed.

Find the name of your unwanted browser in the list and select it and press
the 'Add/Remove' button.

Thats it..

However your unwanted browser may not be in this list (part of the Microsoft
certification process for software is that it must include an un-installer
and some software vendors may neglect this on purpose to make it difficult
for you to remove their programs.), in which case you will need to find
someone with some Windows programming knowledge to delete the software and
edit your Windows registry manually.

If you cannot un-install your unwanted browser from the 'Add/Remove
Programs' control panel you can prevent yourself from using it by deleting
all of your desktop and menu shortcuts to it. Wherever you see the Icon for
the browser, right click on it and select delete from the drop-down menu.
Check also to see if it is in you Start-up menu (Start/Programs/Start-up)
and delete it from that folder to prevent it from starting automatically
when you start Windows.
Next create a desktop link to Microsoft's Internet Explorer - right click
anywhere on your Desktop to display the drop-down menu and select
New/Shortcut. It will ask for the program to run.. select the Browse button
and select iexplore.exe from (usually) your c:\Program Files\Internet
Explorer folder. Click the Next button and enter your description for the
shortcut (eg. My Internet or whatever)
