Hello

I have a strange problem - my PC thinks it is on battery power! It is a
desktop and runs on mains but the little battery shows in the bottom right
and permanently says I have 50% left. This was not a problem (in fact I
hadn't noticed it) until I came to install SP2, which refuses to install as
it thinks the PC is running on batteries.

I have tried changing the various Power Options to no avail, there is
nothing in Services that seems to relate (UPS is not started) and I have
tried changing the only BIOS reference to power management but nothing
helps.

Can anyone help me to remove this unwanted feature? Appologies if this is
the wrong group, it seemed the closest. OS is XP-pro SP1.

Thanks,
Denville.

Dont know the answer but;
Win2k installing sp2? win2k has been sp4 for some time!
where have you been?

This particular machine runs on a totally private network so the update was
more routine than important.

I seem to have solved the problem, in Device Manager there is a Batteries
node leading to a Microsoft Legacy Battery, which I disabled. Now the
little battery has disappeared. Haven't had the PC out of service yet,
though, to do the SP2 update.

Denville.
