Do you have any device attached to your serial port?

If not, try disabling your serial port in the bios

What do you have connected to the PC's serial port that is being
mis-identified as a mouse? Have you placed the No SerialMouse option
command in your boot.ini file to prevent WinXP from detecting it as a mouse?

I've done a spot of googling the problem & tried adding
'/fastdetect:com1,com2' to boot.in, I think /noserialmice applies to earlier
versions of Windows, I have XP Home.
As a matter of interest I have only got usb mouse, usb keyboard, usb printer,
& a monitor connected, although I have a wireless network adapter on pci , I
don't think I'm using any serial ports.
I'll see how it goes, I can try NoSerialMice option or skipenumerations in
regedit if it doesn't work this way.
Phil.

If your PS/2 ports are active(not disabled in BIOS), Windows will still try to install them. I have
a USB mouse but if I go to Device Manager and select to show hidden devices there is an entry for a
PS/2 mouse that is not present because the port is active.
