Sometimes when i click on an email address thats on a website , i get
literally 10s of internet explorers trying to open ,with the result that
my system resources (im using 98) become non existent and i have to do a
hard reboot.Ive never been able to find the cause of this.Im using
myie2.Usually i remember not to click a mail link in a webpage but just
copy it into my mail programme (foxmail). However is there some sort of
freeware that not justs warns me of my resources going down but will
actively stop anything else (programe ,web pages etc)from opening when my
resources reach a predefined level?

In Firefox, multiple IE windows sometimes happens to me also on certain sites, a
closeall utility didn't work, never found an explanation why it happens when IE
was never open to start with.

Thanks for that.I cant work out what it is either. It usually happens if i
click a (e-mail address removed) (boclean) for example .Usually any support
email initiates multiple IE windows. As i mentioned..a programme that
could actively stop any progs/windows openeing when a preset resource
figure was reached would be brilliant.

IIRC, that is exactly where it occurs for me- I click on a support link and chaos.
The contact page is probably coded for IE, but why it does that- I don't know.

I use ZoneAlarm - I sllow IE on a one-time basis (ZA asks each time if I
want to allow IE) - that might be one way to block the runaway windows.

I am using Windows 2000. That used to happen to me until I set the
registry key

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Classes\mailto\shell\open\command

to the string value

"C:\Program Files\Mozilla\mozilla.exe" -quiet -browser "%1"

The following may have worked for me when I was using Thunderbird

"C:\Program Files\Thunderbird\thunderbird.exe" -compose /mailurl:%1

I'd suggest playing with that registry key per the above formats for
your application. All mailto links are working fine for me now. (Even
the rightclick sendto Mail Recipient which I was surprised and pleased
to find.)

Thanks, Susan. I suppose Kerio could do the same thing.

Thanks, that may work in W98SE.

Thanks for the suggestion of it being a mailto registry error.I have at
last found what the problem was, doing a google mailto error search.
