When starting anything up that is a part of Windows (ie
search, run, any windows programs), I get the
error "Unable to send data to 'ad'." I have done some
extensive searching online, and found nothing that looked
like that. I have ad-aware 6, with the newest upgrades,
and it doesn't find anything. I have spy-bot, again,
fully upgraded, that also comes back empty. I'm not sure
what the 'ad' is, or how to remove it. The largest
problem occurs when I start Internet Explorer. It gives
me the same error, and then closes my browser, making it
impossible for me to work online. I'm working on a Dell
Inspirion 5150 laptop, and the two times before I've had
problems, the only solution given is to format my hard
drive. I'm a bit sick of doing that, but will have to do
so for the third time in as many months if need be. Any
help would be excellent. Thank you.

Did you run an updated anti-virus program scan for
viruses and worms ? Search for the "ad" in files and
folders on your main hard drive, if it is found, then
right click that file, select properties, then look for
any hints as to what it is from. In your search options be
sure it is set to look in system and hidden folders and
files. Also in the control panel, then administrative
tools, select the Event Viewer, which does log errors. You
select either applications or system on the left side,
then double click an error message on the right side to
view details. Also you may search for this "ad" in the
registry using the regedit.exe program. You could try the
system file checker tool, click start, run, and type in; "
sfc /scannow " with that space after the sfc, and it may
ask for your XP CD to copy any needed files from, and it
runs as "windows file protection". Borrow a XP CD if you
do not have have, if it asks for one to insert.
