Unused icons in Start Menu

When I use the Classic Start Menu, infrequently used items are hidden, but
when I use the standard Start Menu they are not. Is this normal, or is there
a setting or registry tweak that will change this behaviour?

It is normal. You can try searching on www.google.com for any Registry
tweak.

right-click start button, properties
customize
In the box, look for a setting regarding personalized menu (meaning
that most-used items are shown).

Unfortunately, Personalized Menus only seems to apply to Classic Start Menu.
I am looking for the equivalent with standard Start menu.
