Unsupported Processor?

I run a TYAN i840 (S2520) that has the Intel i840 chipset and two Pentium III
933Mhz processors. The Windows Defender will not install claiming that it
doesn't support the processor configuration. What is this about? Is there a
resolution?

My impression is that this error--which I've seen posted here a few
times--less than half a dozen--appears to relate to an imcomplete download.

I'd advise re-downloading, and, if you've got the bandwidth--do it twice,
save to disk each time, and eyeball compare them--if different, run the
largest.

I finally got time to figure this out. It seems that even though I selected
the correct version of Windows (XP) running on an x386 machine, I actually
received in the download an x64 version. Of course that would not install on
my Pentium III machine!

Bill, if you hadn't suggested the multiple downloads and comparing file
sizes, I wouldn't have discovered this.

Thanks!

Well, I'm glad my advice, even though wrongheaded, actually helped. In
retrospect, having seen more of these messages, I believe this issue is
probably always caused by having the wrong file--which we should try to
distinguish by having the user save to the desktop and check the name.

With the current download page structure, it should be pretty hard to get
the wrong file--but the steady trickle of this kind of post--you aren't
alone--proves it is possible.
