A new device I'm working on has a SocketModem that's not supported in any of
the INF files (including INF files downloaded from the manufacturer).
The result is that first boot completes successfully but a normal startup
results in the appearance of the "Add New Device" dialog.
Since the application supervises the modem directly (no TAPI), is there any
way to suppress plug-and-play for one or all serial ports?
This device is headless and installed in very remote locations. Given that
lightning strikes aren't unusual and the long life span of these devices,
it's likely that replacement modems will be different than the modem the
device shipped with.
Field technicians won't be able to cart around various XPe images to support
the various modems they may run into.
