I use Outlook 2002 and am dismayed at its instability. I
like to "file as" with last name, then given name. I never
know from one use to the next how thinks will appear. In
addition, the e-mail addresses sometimes disappear without
reason. What should I do?

Russ, I apologize for my deficient information.
First of all the e-mail addresses sometimes totally
disappear from both the contact file and from the e-mail
address files - all address gone! This is not a constant
problem. It only happens spasmodically about three times a
year.

I've checked Properties for Contacts and find the
following:
General
Contacts
Type: Folder containing Contact Items
Location: Personal Folders
Description: Contacts Comment
When posting to this folder, use: Contact
"Automatically generate Microsoft Exchange Views" is
checked

Home Page
Blank

Outlook Address Book
Contacts
"Show this folder as an e-mail Addresss Book" is
not active
Name of address book: "Contacts" is grayed - not
active

Activities
Default activities view: All items

Hope this is what you need. Thanks for your
consideration - Linda

Please provide enough detail for someone to help.
How is your File As... field default configured?
E-mail addresses disappear from where?
We haven't much to go on here.
I've never seen anything like what you've described.
