When I try to display some pages I get a runtime error.
For the page for this forum I get the following.
runtime error in line 474: Unspecified error.
I can obviously stop the eror message by deselecting the debug script option
but I believe the error is stopping me display vital information on the
pages. In this case I am unable to see the details of a post that should
appear in the right hand pane.
I have no problem on other PCs (usinga server to do this post) so its one
PC that has the problem.
I done the latest updates and tried setting the settings to their defaults
but the problem persists.
I would rather not have to rebuild this PC.
Is there anything I can do?
Please help if you can.
Regards, Major.
p.s. Major is my Christian name ;-)

Further information:
By selecting the option to debug I got the following Information:
Line 474 is in http://js.microsoft.com/library/mnp/2/wt/js/wt.js
and contains
document.body.addBehavior("#default#clientCaps");
this is in function dcsVar

Anyone any ideas on why this particular request is failing on this PC?

Regards, Major.

Go to Tools | Internet Options | Advanced.
Check the box to Disable script debugging.
Uncheck the box to Display a notification about every script error.

1. You might want to refresh your scripting engine:

2. Sometimes there's a corrupt file in the cache and one must go to Tools |
Internet Options and click Delete Files.

2a. Start | Run | Regsvr32 vbscript.dll

2b. Start | Run | Regsvr32 jscript.dll

3. Re-register all DLLs listed in http://support.microsoft.com/?kbid=281679

5a. IE Tools>Internet Options>Advanced>Browsing>Enable third-party browser
extensions (uncheck & reboot).

5b. Find the hijacker that caused 5a to be checked (or if none were checked,
check for hijackware anyway):

Frank, thank you very much for the comprehensive list of paths I could try.
I am running Windows Defender so am not expecting any bad software.
I have tried deleing cookies, files, history and reregistering DLLs but the
problem persists.
I have subsequently reproduced the script unspecified error condition on
another PC so have set disabled script debugging.
I thought this was the cause of my problem but maybe its something else.
The problem is that on my PC when I browse to this discussion group the data
does not appear in the right hand pane and the new, reply options do not
respond.
This problem also occurs on other web pages but only on my PC.
Hvae you any ideas what I can do?
I am clutching at straws and looking at a possible PC rebuild.
Regards, Major.

Windows Defender (like OneCare) is not one of the best.

Did you try reinstalling the script engine?

Frank, I did try reinstalling the script engine.
The installation went ok and I restarted the PC.
The problem with script unspecified error did not go away.

Regards, Major.
