Unsolicited Restarts

After installing SP4 the PC begins to restart on it's own. It never
happened when I was actively using the PC but the PC is also a second
PC that I don't use much. It did restart when applications were open
and transferring data (an FTP session) and when the PC was left after
starting an Outlook Install. This install was waiting for an
entry/response and the PC restarted…

I have seen no kb/issue on the Microsoft site about this, has anyone
else had this experience? We have had the problem on virtually every
PC (about 20) that SP4 was installed on, not on the servers… I even
went so far as to do a fresh install of W2K Pro on the PC, install
SP4, and had the same bad experience.

We have suspended the installation of SP4 to any PC or Server until
this issue is resolved.

These reboots may be System failures. Windows will reboot instead of giving you a BSOD. First thing to check would be Control
Panel | System | Advanced | Startup and Recovery .. Uncheck Automatically Reboot. If there is a fatal error causing the rebooting
you're experiencing you will get an error message.
